How do I export, sync, or search ChatGPT chats with Pactify?

Updated 2026-11-05

On chatgpt.com or chat.openai.com, open a real conversation (not /share, /sites, /scheduled, or /library). Badge → Sync → Export sit at the top right. Distill (Starter) sits by the message box. Use Export for files and Sync for Notion. The full-history switch appears when older messages are not loaded yet. Sync progress follows a server watermark across devices. If ChatGPT rate-limits history, Sync shows Needs attention—wait a few minutes or use Bulk Incremental. Starter: Sync → Bulk History Sync.

Steps

  1. Open a ChatGPT conversationUse chatgpt.com or chat.openai.com — not /share, /sites, /scheduled, or /library. Wait until top-right Badge → Sync → Export appear.
  2. Export or Sync from the top-rightExport → Export AI Conversation for files. Sync → Sync & Enable Auto-Sync (or Connect / Manage Connection first).
  3. Long threadsIf older messages are not on the page yet, flip the full-history switch on Sync (Notion or Capacities required), wait for loading, then Sync. If the page already has the whole chat, the switch stays hidden.
  4. Many chats (Starter)Sync → Bulk History Sync → Incremental or Full Sync → Start Bulk Sync.
  5. Find laterToolbar icon or badge → Sidepanel → Chats. Search ≥2 characters; filter ChatGPT if needed.

Sites

chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com. Open a concrete conversation so top-right controls mount.

Controls

Top-right headerBadge → Sync → Export on both the older page and the newer page. On the new page the buttons sit just left of the top-right actions. The full-history switch is inside Sync, and only when older messages are not loaded yet.
Message boxDistill (Starter) — not in the header. On the two-row “Work with ChatGPT” box, Distill is on the second row and does not cover the first line.

Multi-device watermark

Sync progress is stored server-side per conversation. If you already synced part of a chat on your phone, opening the same chat on desktop continues from that watermark instead of starting over. If the page currently shows fewer messages than already synced, Pactify does not overwrite the longer Notion page with the shorter snapshot—the button can stay Synced until older messages load. The full-history switch may appear in that case; flip it on before Sync.

Charts, GenUI, and code

Charts, tables, and interactive GenUI blocks sync/export as readable Markdown tables and text when possible. Cite/Link chips no longer corrupt nearby math or code. Code-block extraction is more reliable.

Rate limit → Needs attention

When ChatGPT rate-limits history loading (HTTP 429), Sync shows Needs attention with a clear retry message (English tip: ChatGPT rate-limited this conversation because requests were too frequent. Please wait a few minutes and try syncing again.). That is not the same as “already fully synced.” For large catch-up jobs, prefer the Incremental Sync window over opening many tabs.

Blocked paths

No primary injection on /share, /sites, /scheduled, /library, draft stubs, or plugin directories.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Sync disabled on ChatGPT?

You may not be in a concrete conversation yet, or you are on a blocked route like /share, /sites, /scheduled, or /library.

Why does Sync say Needs attention on ChatGPT?

Often ChatGPT rate-limited history loading. Wait a few minutes and Sync again. For large backfills, use Incremental Sync in the Bulk window instead of opening many tabs.

Can I export a ChatGPT conversation to Markdown, PDF, or Word?

Yes. Use top-right Export for Markdown, PDF, Word, Notion, or Google Docs. Charts and GenUI export as readable tables/text when possible. Export does not fill Sidepanel Search—Sync (or local index) does.

Can I search ChatGPT history with Pactify?

Yes. Sync or local-only indexing writes Sidepanel Chats on this device—then search titles and messages (≥2 characters). Export alone does not fill Search.
